Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

From Bit Gamer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a 2011 first-person shooter video game, jointly developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. The game was released worldwide in November 2011 for Microsoft Windows, the Xbox 360PlayStation 3, and Wii. It is the third and final installment in the original Modern Warfare saga, a direct sequel to 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the eighth Call of Duty installment overall. A separate version for the Nintendo DS was developed by n-Space, while Treyarch developed the game's Wii port. In Japan, Square Enix published the game with a separate subtitled and dubbed version.

The game's campaign follows Modern Warfare 2 and begins right after the events of its final mission. Similar to Modern Warfare 2, it is centered around the Task Force 141, which contains Captain PriceSoap MacTavish, and Yuri, one of the playable characters. Alongside the Delta Force and Special Air Service, they hunt Vladimir Makarov (antagonist of Modern Warfare 2), a Russian terrorist who leads the Russian Ultranationalist party. He leads several terror attacks across Europe, triggering a large-scale war between the Ultranationalists and friendly forces. For the game's multiplayer mode, new mode types and killstreak choices were brought in. Improvements were also made to the mode that solved issues that appeared in Modern Warfare 2.

Using an enhanced version of Modern Warfare 2'IW engine, development for the game began in 2010 with more than one developer. Prior to development, Infinity Ward co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella left the company to form Respawn Entertainment. Other members had been fired or had left the company following the duo's departure. Sledgehammer Games had joined the Modern Warfare 3 development force, with Raven Software also developing the game's multiplayer mode. Following a large leak containing detailed information about the game, multiple teaser trailers were released, with each showcasing a location featured in the game's campaign, leading up to a full reveal.

Modern Warfare 3 received positive reviews from critics, with praise for its gameplay, campaign, and multiplayer, although there was some criticism for its story and lack of innovation. It won the award for Best Shooter at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards. It was a massive commercial success. Within 24 hours of going on sale, the game sold 6.5 million copies in the United States and United Kingdom and grossed $400 million, contemporarily making it the largest entertainment launch of all time.

Gameplay

Modern Warfare 3 is a first-person shooter video game much like its predecessors. Modern Warfare 3 for Microsoft Windows has dedicated servers support.[8]

The player assumes the role of various characters during the single player campaign, changing perspectives throughout the progression of the story, which, like its predecessors, is divided into three sets of missions called "Acts". Each mission in an act featuring a series of objectives that are displayed on the heads up display, which marks the direction and distance between such objectives and the player. Damage to the player is shown by the visualization of blood-spatter or red-outs on the screen. The player's health regenerates over time as long as the player character avoids taking damage for a limited time. Mission objectives vary in their requirements, ranging from having the player arrive at a particular checkpoint, to eliminating enemies in a specified location, to standing their ground against enemy squadrons, directing remote-operated weapons, and planting explosive charges on enemy installations. The player is also accompanied by fellow soldiers who cannot be issued orders. Like its predecessor, the game includes an interactive scene of a terror attack against civilians, which the player is given the option of skipping due to the portrayal of graphic and potentially upsetting content, including harm to children.

AN Activation Game Presents

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

From Bit Gamer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a 2016 first-person shooter game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. It is a remastered version of 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The remaster was initially released as part of the special edition bundles of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in November 2016, for PlayStation 4Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. A standalone version was released for PlayStation 4 in June 2017, and for Xbox One and Windows the following month.

Development began in early 2015 after a fan-made online petition requesting a Modern Warfare remaster was released. Activision enlisted Raven Software—who had assisted the development of past Call of Duty games' multiplayer modes—to develop Remastered, while original developer Infinity Ward supervised. Remastered features extensive graphical, rendering, and lighting enhancements, updated animations, remastered original sound effects as well as adding new, and retains the original core gameplay while offering a number of small improvements. New multiplayer content and additional achievements and cheats are also included.

Modern Warfare Remastered received generally favorable reviews. Critics lauded the enhanced graphics, sound, and range of improvements. Additional praise was given to the gameplay in comparison to later games in the series, resulting in what was considered a more challenging and grounded single-player campaign, while the multiplayer was complimented for its simplicity and freshness. Criticism focused on design aspects in both modes which were seen as dated, in particular certain gameplay mechanics, and the pacing of the narrative. Remastered was also the subject of controversy from Activision's decisions to initially only release it as part of a bundle, the inclusion of microtransactions, and the determined pricing of the downloadable content and standalon

Gameplay[edit]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered features the same core gameplay as the original version: it is a first-person shooter in which the player controls several characters. However, it includes a few modifications; for example, the controls and timing of existing animations have been improved, though remain nearly identical to the originals,[1][2][3] while in the prone position, the player's arms and equipped weapon are now visible.[4] In multiplayer modes, if a weapon is equipped, players now have the ability to taunt their opponents, such as allowing the player to inspect the exterior of their gun.[2][5]

The campaign is almost identical to the original. It keeps the same collectibles and cheats as before, with the addition of several new cheats, such as exaggerated physics that fling enemies backwards as they are killed, and replacing the heads of non-player characters (NPCs) with watermelons.[6] The game offers full PlayStation Network trophy and Xbox Live achievement support (trophies of which had been absent from the PlayStation 3 version of Modern Warfare, due to the game releasing before they were introduced[7]), with the inclusion of several new challenges.[8]

Remastered features an updated version of the multiplayer that shares similarities with those featured in later Call of Duty games. It includes the same weapons, killstreaks, perks, and game modes from Modern Warfare.[9][10][11] Existing modes present in other installments are also included such as "Kill Confirmed", "Gun Game", and "Hardpoint", as well as new modes like "Prop Hunt" in which players hide as inanimate objects from the opposing team.[12][13] The multiplayer offers a greater variety of customization options for profile personalization, character skins, and weapon camouflage. A number of weapons not featured in Modern Warfare were also added. All new content can be unlocked through completing challenges, crafting by consuming "Parts" that the player can earn, or by opening supply drops, while existing items from the original remain unlockable only through gaining in experience.[19] The online includes 20 Prestige levels, an increase from the 10 available in Modern Warfare. Entering each new Prestige level resets any unlockables that have been previously made available, but retains all customization items, in addition to any weapons, attachments, or perks that have been permanently unlocked. A firing range is present in the online lobby, allowing the player to test out different weapon loadouts

A Activation Game Presents

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

From Bit Gamer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a 2009 first-person shooter game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is the sixth installment in the Call of Duty series and the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, continuing the storyline. It was released worldwide on November 10, 2009, for Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. A separate version for the Nintendo DS, titled Modern Warfare: Mobilized, was also released on the same day. A version for macOS was developed by Aspyr and released in May 2014, and the Xbox 360 version was made backward compatible for the Xbox One in 2018.

The game's campaign follows Task Force 141 (a special forces unit fronted by Captain Soap MacTavish as they hunt Vladimir Makarov, leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party), and the United States Army Rangers who are defending the country from a Russian invasion. The game's main playable characters are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, of the 141, and Private James Ramirez, of the Army Rangers, with Captain MacTavish becoming playable later in the campaign. An expansive multiplayer mode is featured in the game, with several new features and modes that were not seen in its predecessor.

Development for the game began in 2008, when it was still known as Call of Duty 6. It uses the IW 4.0 engine, an improved version of Call of Duty 4's IW 3.0. Infinity Ward was inspired by real-life conflicts when developing the campaign mode. They initially tested the multiplayer mode by playing an in-house beta version of the game. Modern Warfare 2 was officially announced in February 2009. Teasing of the game began in March, with short trailers being released for the game and, eventually, a full reveal trailer. The multiplayer mode was revealed shortly after. Two downloadable content packs were released for it post-release, each containing five new multiplayer maps, with some being remastered maps from Call of Duty 4.

Modern Warfare 2 received universal acclaim, with praise for its campaign, multiplayer, and amount of content, although it received some criticism for its short length and a lack of innovation. Within 24 hours of release, the game sold approximately 4.7 million copies in North America and the United Kingdom. As of 2013, the game had sold 22.7 million copies. In addition to its release, a comic book series based on one of the game's characters was also produced, entitled Modern Warfare 2: Ghost. Despite the game's success, it was subject to some controversies, with one surrounding a playable level that had the player carry out a terror attack on an airport. A sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, was released in 2011 and finishes the original Modern Warfare storyline. A remaster of the game's campaign, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, was released in March 2020 on the PlayStation 4 and on Microsoft Windows and Xbox One in April 2020.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 revolves around fast-paced gunfights against enemy combatants.[2] The player controls a soldier who can perform several actions, including jump, sprint, crouch, lay prone, and aim down their gun's iron sights.[3] When the player is shot by an enemy, blood will splatter their heads-up display (HUD), denoting that they have taken damage; if the player avoids gunfire by taking cover, their health will recover.[4] The HUD also displays other information, such as a compass, a mini-map, and the player's current ammunition count.[5] The game features traditional guns, including assault riflesshotgunshandguns, and sniper rifles. The player will be given specific guns at the beginning of each level, but may switch them out with another gun they find.[6] Some guns have attachments, such as suppressors, and heartbeat sensors.[7] The player can use grenades and flashbangs when faced with a large group of enemies, as well as a knife for close quarters combat.[8] In some levels, the player will be given special equipment, such as night vision goggles, or a laser designator.[9]

Players can compete against each other in multiplayer mode.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has three different game modes: Campaign, Spec Ops, and Multiplayer.[10] Campaign is a single-player mode where the player completes eighteen levels connected by an overarching plot.[11] Each level features a series of objectives to fulfill, and the player will often switch characters between levels.[10][12] If the player dies during a level, they will respawn at the most recent checkpoint.[13] Levels can be played on one of four difficulties, and each level can be replayed after it has been completed.[13][14] Spec Ops mode features twenty-three additional levels that can be played individually or cooperatively with a partner. These levels provide specific challenges, such as defusing three bombs within a short period of time.[15] If one player is shot down while playing cooperatively, they will begin crawling, and can shoot enemies with a handgun. If they are not revived by the other player, then they will die and fail the level.[15] There are five tiers of Spec Ops levels, with each tier harder than the previous. Only the first tier is available from the beginning, as later tiers can be unlocked with enough stars. The player earns stars by completing the levels on one of three difficulties, with the number of stars earned corresponding to the difficulty chosen.[15]

Multiplayer mode allows players to compete against each other in team-based and deathmatch-based game types on various maps. Each game type has an objective that requires unique strategies to complete.[16] If the player kills three or more players in a row without dying, they achieve a "killstreak", which gives the player a tactical advantage during a match. These include a Predator missile,[17] a sentry gun,[18] and a "tactical nuke".[19] Alternatively, if the player dies several times without a kill, they will be rewarded with a "deathstreak" bonus, which evens the match for the player.[19] A match ends when either a team or player has reached a predefined number of points, or the allotted time expires in which case the team or player with the most points wins.[20] The player's performance in multiplayer is tracked with experience points, which can be earned by killing opposing players, completing objectives, or by completing a match.[21] As the player gains experience, they advance in level, unlocking new weapons. The player will also unlock perks, which modify gameplay elements such as unlimited sprint and increased bullet damage

An Activation Game Presents

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

From Bit Gamer

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is a 2016 first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is the thirteenth installment in the Call of Duty series and was released worldwide for Microsoft WindowsPlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 4, 2016.

Development of Infinite Warfare began during 2014. It is the first title by Infinity Ward under the new three-year development cycle for the Call of Duty series. The game's campaign is centered around a battle for the Solar System, which the Settlement Defense Front (SDF), a hostile force who are the main antagonists, are attempting to take over. The player takes control of Lieutenant Nick Reyes of the Special Combat Air Recon (SCAR). They have their own transforming fighter, named "Jackal", that they can customize as well as a central hub ship named Retribution.

Infinite Warfare's announcement trailer was noted for its strong negative reaction; it was the second-most disliked video on YouTube at the time. Commentators attributed this to a botting campaign by both fans of rival game Battlefield 1 as well as Call of Duty fans expressing frustration at the direction the series had taken, specifically that the game and its predecessors had futuristic settings.[2] Nevertheless, the game received generally positive reviews upon release; critics praised the single-player campaign, which was seen as a considerable improvement over that of Black Ops III, the greater player freedom approach in missions, Zombies mode, visuals, and design, while the multiplayer mode was criticized for its lack of innovation. It was named as Best shooter at E3 by Game informer and was nominated by several awards, winning one of them. Infinite Warfare underperformed in sales compared to previous Call of Duty titles, though Infinite Warfare was the top-selling game in the US in November 2016.

Gameplay

Similar to the previous games in the series, Infinite Warfare is a first-person shooter. As the game introduces a new setting, outer space, new gameplay mechanics, such as zero-gravity environments, are included.[3][4][5] Players are equipped with a boost pack, and a grappling hook, which allow players to move in these zero-gravity environments easily. As the game is set in space, players can visit different planets, satellites and asteroids in the solar system.[6]

Assuming control of Captain Nick Reyes, a Tier 1 Special Operations pilot, players engage in aerial combat with enemies using his transforming fighter, the Jackal.[7] Aerial combat is not on-rail, as players can freely control the Jackal with few limitations. According to Infinity Ward, both space combat, and the franchise's signature "boots-on-the-ground" gameplay are the game's key focuses,[8] Transition between space combat and boots-on-the-ground combat is seamless with no loading screen.[9]

Players gain access to Retribution, a central hub world. In Retribution, players can view their progression, and start main campaign missions, and secondary quests called "Ship Assaults" which gives them cosmetic and customization items, upgrades to the Jackal, as well as new story details.[10][11] Reyes also has a wrist computer, which allows him to hack into enemies' gadgets and machines such as robots. It can also be used to call in reinforcements at some campaign scenarios.[6] The game also features two new difficulty modes, Specialist and #YOLO, unlockable after initial completion of the campaign. In the former mode, health regeneration does not occur without Nano Shots, and weapons can be shot out from players' hands. Reyes' movement would be hindered if his legs are shot by enemies. In the latter mode, which also implements the same features from Specialist, when players die, they need to restart the game rather than restarting from checkpoints.[12]
